This article is composed of several posts made to different facebook groups, one being our own Topeka Police Scanner group. Because I dd not discuss or ask permission of the original authors of those posts, I am not attributing their names to their posts in order to protect their privacy.
Just a reminder as we have city council members, mayor, and the former city manager continuing to use the line “we don’t want to bring national problems here” as an excuse to not change practices that this former candidate for city council was a person they chose to listen to as he aggressively incited hate HERE! They let it happen with their inaction. It will continue to happen without mitigation.

- Pope is a member of Ron Gish’s “Blue Shield” “Blue Lives Matter” racist pro-cop group that went to DC to participate in the riots and insurrection that Pope and others are charged for their participation in.Gish, a disgraced ex-cop continues to kabitz and shove his agenda into city business through his racist group and tries to influence city and police policies.
- “Pope ran for the 2nd District seat on the Topeka City Council in 2019, losing to Christina Valdivia-Alcala. Last year, he became a prominent member of the Blue Shield Facebook group, which opposes police reforms proposed by Black Lives Matter. After Kansas Reflector reported on Pope’s involvement in the insurrection, the retired Topeka police officer who leads the group said he kicked Pope out.”Gish is always having to ‘re-invent’ his groups image and history and try to re-brand it. They have done several “Show appreciation to fascist pigs” events in Topeka, where they hope to curry favor with their white supremacist friends on the police department. Pope is still a part and parcel of that …just not so up front and public: He is still good friends with many topeka police officers and the current and ex chiefs. He is also a member of the Police Department “Outlaw Biker Gang “The Gun Slingers”. (2 time murderer Officer Michael Cruse is the “Sgt At Arms” of that “Motorcycle” gang.)(It would be interesting to see how many times, and where Pope has applied to be a police officer and been rejected.)Pope had spoken before several “public” meetings of the city council and Topeka Police Dept where they were discussing Police Reform in the wake of the George Floyd murders, and other corrupt police issues. Pope was especially concerned about “qualified Immunity” for officers being taken away, which is an odd thing for someone who is not a cop to be so concerned about. He was obviously acting as a proxy for officers in the room, and the then-chief Cochruns spoke to him in an “up close and personal” manner using first names and acknowledging Pope’s close relationship with the dept and “many officers”.
