Though, according to the latest report from the FBI, crime has actually decreased in past 2 years. And, why is it that it’s assumed Republican politicians are tougher on crime than Democrats? It was Bill Clinton who signed the horrendous 1994 Crime Bill act. Though he now apologizes for it.”
And the right wing “conservatives” will eat that shit up for breakfast lunch and dinner. (Liberal-lefty democrat types are more more discerning and thoughtfull about the info they take in, but still get gaffed on a lot of the bullshit that FOX, Sinclair and Grey Media etc shit out at us.) Its no accident, the nazis at FOX news start cranking up the crime-panic levels as we edge up to an important mid-term election.
And its true: Crime HAS decreased, but not just in the last 2 years, over all in the last 30 years crime has gone down. (And it is very interesting to look at the graphs starting just before they outlawed lead in gasoline (Thus reducing the lead in the environment) the reduction in violent crimes tracked perfectly in a downward trajectory with the reducing amount of lead in the environment.
Part of the over-all experiment of this scanner group (the Topeka Police Scanner Group on Facebook) (Im sure a few of you remember that this has all been a part of an experiment since the beginning….thats why I never threw a fit or had the conniptions that *some* people thought I would, or should when the copy-cats started their copy cats groups. They are unwittingly furthering the cause and objectives of all this. They are too dumb to know it, but whatever.) Republicans have often rested on the “Tougher on crime” platform.
But all they have really done is *statistically* increased crime with the “war on drugs”, and thrown more and more people in prison for relatively minor pot offenses. So which is it? Is crime going up? or coming down?
The FBI and some other federal tracking agencies say its actually going down. But the media, especially “conservative media” would have you believing that theres a rapist burglar murderer behind every door waiting to kidnap your child and sell him./her off to Hillary Clinton and Podesta to perform satanic bloody rituals so they can eat the pineal glands in a Pizza Parlor basement.
Our local police, like many other departments, finds themselves at a conundrum: They would love to parrot the right wing propaganda, but to do so means that they have to “admit” that crime is going up, meaning that they are doing a really shitty job. (And roughly half of our force would gladly tell you that “Black people commit the most crimes, its just a fact, we arrest far more black people”….the other half are smart enough to hide their racism.)
And then due to some back-door finagling with Dubya Bush and the military industrial complex, they made it possible for police departments to “buy” ex-military gear….like tanks, and APCs, and machine guns, and helicopters. And the psychos at every police station drooled in delight at the chance to ram through someones house (with a made up warrant) at 4:00am with an armored vehicle YEEE HAW! And next thing we know we have militarized police forces, something that they were never intended to be, marching in our streets beating people down for their fist amendment exercisms.
But then those police departments had tojustify having that kind of military weaponery, and to do that it meant that they had to USE it. So the cops are very anxious to find (or create) excuses to use all that stuff any chance they can.
Oh! But wait! Is that why crime is going down!? Not according to the cops, or wait, maybe it is, it depends on what election or funding cycle they are in. This is just one reason why we need full transparency with our police departments and DAs offices. (And that includes things like being able to see body-cam footage when cops murder someone.) and it means seeing the ful records and reports on individual cops who get suspended or put on “leave with our withour pay”, no more hiding behind “Its a personel matter”. (Public safety should NeveR be held hostage by the FOP and civilian pro-police groups who are somehow setting governmental policy.)
We are not “Anti police”, we are anti-fascism. We are a GOOD cops best friend. (And Ive heard that directly from the lips of a couple of the very few “good cops” in Topeka: they actually appreciate what we are trying to do here. One went so far as to say “Any officer that is really against that is someone who has no business being in Law Enforcement.”
