

Intentionally set house fire
206 NE Chandler St.
TOPEKA, Kan. – The Topeka Fire Department (TFD) and Topeka Police Department (TPD) are
investigating an intentionally set house fire that resulted in two people being seriously injured
Wednesday morning.
On February 1, 2023 at around 1:15 a.m., TPD officers were dispatched to 214 NE Chandler St. in
reference to an unknown individual causing a disturbance outside of the home. Upon arrival, TPD
officers observed a large house fire at 206 NE Chandler St.
TPD requested the response of TFD and American Medical Response (AMR). TFD responded a short time
later, finding heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Two adults, one male and one female
were located outside the house suffering from serious fire-related injuries.
While TFD was performing an offensive fire attack on the house, TPD officers located an adult male
suspect in the area from the earlier disturbance. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to
the Law Enforcement Center to be interviewed.
As a result of the investigation, the suspect, identified as Arturo R. Ramirez, 41, of Topeka, was arrested
and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections for the following charges:
Attempted Murder in the 1st degree: Intentional and premeditated
Aggravated Arson: Substantial Risk To Great Bodily
Endangerment; Reckless Expose to Danger, Bodily Harm
Violate protection order; Abuse order per KSA 60-3105, 60-3106, 60-3107
Probation County On Felony
Probation Violation County Misdemeanor
The cause of the fire has been determined by TFD investigators as incendiary; intentionally set. The
incident, which is domestic in nature, is being investigated by TFD and TPD.
