TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Prosecutors are negotiating a plea deal for the man accused of sexually assaulting multiple students at Topeka West High School.

A former Topeka West High School student who was the subject of a protest last September will be tried as an adult on 11 criminal charges involving five alleged victims.

Shawnee County District Court Judge Darian P. Dernovish on Wednesday granted District Attorney Mike Kagay’s request that adult status be given to Greyson Dean Issit, Kagay told reporters

Kagay had asked Dernovish to arrange for Issit to be tried as an adult because of the serious nature of the charges.

What is Issit charged with?
Issit faces charges of three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, two counts each of attempted aggravated sodomy and battery and one count each of sexual battery, indecent solicitation of a child, aggravated sexual battery and aggravated sodomy, Kagay said.

The defendant was a student at Topeka West for less than one month, from August 2021 to September 2021, said Aarion L. Gray, director of instructional services for Topeka USD 501.

“He was not a student at the time of his alleged incident,” Gray said. “He was enrolled in (Topeka Public Schools) for less than 30 days.”

Greyson Issitt, 20, was arrested and charged with multiple child sex crimes in 2021, when he was 17 years old. Students at the school held protests against Issitt’s presence at the school around the same time, just a day after charges were filed against him. Topeka Public Schools did release a statement at the time stating the assaults did not happen on campus.

He was set to be tried as an adult in 2022, and transferred from the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex last year. Charges against him include sexual battery, sodomy, and indecent liberties.

Issitt is now scheduled for a May 16 plea hearing, where he would enter a plea if an agreement is reached.
