Northeast Kansas Weekend Concerts

Aug 20–23, 2026

Kansas City, Lawrence & Topeka

Hello! And welcome to this week’s Northeast Kansas weekend concerts calendar — your Dystopeka.com LIVE Music guide to Topeka, Lawrence, and Kansas City.

The spine and bloodline of this calendar is supplied by NEKS.show — a handy, simple, quick, and easy concert calendar. Go bookmark it.

Topeka shows get a big letter T in front of them. Why? Because we care.

Got a show you want on here? Email the link to the Facebook event page (or your own site with the concert info) to submitshow@neks.show.

New this week: we’ve got a helper. “Secret Shopper” is joining us to pick some of the better punk and hardcore shows happening around town — look for his 🎤 flags.

And it’s festival season again. Next weekend, the end of the month, has a few in the area, but the one you actually need to know about is the Soul Fire Arts and Music Festival, August 28–30, at Truckhenge Farm right here in Topeka. Bonus: it’s also the full Sturgeon Moon that weekend, with a partial lunar eclipse on top of it. Flyer and info at the bottom of this page.

Destroyer Destroyer, Missouri Executive Order 44, Nerver, and Burnbarrel show flyer, Howdy, Sunday August 23

Of everything on my calendar this weekend, this is the one I’m most excited about. Destroyer Destroyer play a combination of mathcore, grindcore, and death metal — most of their songs are short, fast, and like a smack in the mouth. If you like to get in the pit, this is the perfect show for it. If that’s not your thing, it’s still a blast to watch people dance, do acrobatics, and get rowdy in the pit.

Missouri Executive Order 44 is enough of a reason to go to this show on its own. Seeing them perform is a religious experience, and like nothing you’re likely to see anywhere else. I think they are the best hardcore band in the KC area, if not the world.

Nerver plays a mixture of hardcore, noise, and rock in a style that reminds me of Drive Like Jehu, but with more of a modern hardcore edge.

Howdy is the closest venue to the OUTHOUSE since 1998. It feels like a DIY venue, but shows always sound great there. It’s always packed for the all-ages hardcore shows — especially when Missouri Executive Order 44 is playing — so get there by 7:00. If you’re over 21, you can head next door to Farewell after for a cold beverage or an ice pack.

Soul Fire Arts and Music Festival — Truckhenge Farm, Topeka, KS

Soul Fire Arts and Music Festival flyer, August 27-29, Truckhenge Farm, Topeka, Kansas

Bonfires, camping, live music, DJs, drum circles, and underground festival chaos at the legendary Truckhenge outsider-art property. Bonus: that’s also the weekend of the full Sturgeon Moon, peaking late Thursday night into Friday, with a deep partial lunar eclipse tinting it reddish-orange. A blood moon over the bonfires at Truckhenge? That tracks.

Further Reading & Help Us Keep the Scene Loud

If tonight’s lineup got you thinking about the bigger picture — why venues keep disappearing, who’s actually shaping this state, and what Topeka’s own scene had to say for itself — here’s where to go next.

Help Us Keep the Scene Loud

We’re not a venue, a label, or a ticketing company — just local music fans who got tired of missing shows because nobody had put them all in one place. Building a calendar like this one means chasing down Facebook events, tracking down real flyers, double-checking set times, and making sure a cancelled gig doesn’t waste your Friday night. It takes real hours, and Dystopeka.com doesn’t run ads to cover them.

If this calendar has ever gotten you into a room you wouldn’t have found otherwise, saved you from showing up to a cancelled show, or just made following the local scene a little easier — chip in if you can. Every bit goes straight back into covering more shows, not into anyone’s pocket.

Dystopeka.com’s music coverage is run by local music fans, for local music fans. No advertisers, no label kickbacks — just people who love a good show trying to make the scene a little easier to find and follow.
