Northeast Kansas Weekend Concerts: Thursday, September 10

Topeka Sauce Special — Thursday

Envista Eats & Beats feat. The JackWagoneers T

This is it — the last concert of the season. Presented by Envista Credit Union, this 17-week summer series has turned Evergy Plaza into the closest thing downtown Topeka has to a weekly festival: live music, food trucks, and enough lawn chairs to make it feel like an occasion every single Thursday. The JackWagoneers headline this week, with Logan Sanders and F&B Experience rounding out the bill to close things out. If you’ve been meaning to check it out all summer and haven’t yet, this is your last shot until next year.

Northeast Kansas Weekend Concerts pick: Cosmos Court charity drag bingo flyer, Topeka, September 10

ChromeTuna’s Special Pick! — Thursday

Drag, Bingo & Buffet for the Jr. Ad Astra Roller Derby Team T

Not a music show, but we’re making an exception because we like Cosmos, drag queens, and roller derby — three of Dystopeka’s favorite things in one room. Cosmos Court and Kelly Vanderpool present a night of drag, bingo, food, and fun, hosted by the fabulous Mrs. Helena Handbasket, raising money to benefit the Jr. Ad Astra Roller Derby Team. All-you-can-eat Italian buffet starts at 6pm, bingo at 7pm. Tickets: $15 bingo only, $28 bingo + buffet for one, $100 bingo + buffet for four. Every ticket helps support the team — come hungry, bring your friends, and let’s make it a night to remember.

OOoops! We almost missed this! — Thursday

Rob Zombie // Marilyn Manson // The HU // OrgyMusic

How did a Zombie x Manson double-headliner nearly slip past us? Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson co-headline this one at Morton Amphitheater in Riverside, MO, with The HU and OrgyMusic opening. Two of shock rock’s most enduring names on one bill — this isn’t a “maybe next time” show. Doors and music start around 6pm.

Northeast Kansas Weekend Concerts Continue: Friday, September 11

Topeka Sauce Special — Friday

Dustin Arbuckle Trio T

Dustin Arbuckle leans hard into old-school blues, honky tonk, and jazz — a Kansas native whose singing and harmonica playing first made a name for him in Moreland & Arbuckle, and who’s been kicking up fresh dust with The Damnations since 2017. This trio will knock your socks off. Gates, bar, and food truck (Cookin’ with Mike) open at 6, music starts around 7. Cover is $10 at the gate. Family-friendly, dogs on leashes welcome, and it’s part of the NOTO Common Consumption Area, so you can grab a drink from a licensed CCA vendor and wander the courtyard with it.

Northeast Kansas Weekend Concerts pick: Kamelot, Visions of Atlantis, Frozen Crown flyer, The Truman, Kansas City, September 12

Secret Shopper’s Pick — Saturday

Kamelot // Visions of Atlantis // Frozen Crown

Kamelot, one of the biggest names in power metal, is coming to The Truman in Kansas City this Saturday, Sept. 12. Touring in support of their new album, Dark Asylum, Kamelot brings a mix of new material and classic fan favorites. Dark Asylum, which was released at the end of August, leans into the poppier side of power metal, evoking the anthemic sounds of Sabaton and the symphonic orchestrations of Powerwolf. Known for their elaborate sets, beautiful orchestrations, and soaring vocals, the band has a rich history. Thomas Youngblood, the guitarist, started Kamelot in 1987 in Tampa, FL, but it has always been an international band which currently includes members from Germany and Sweden. Tommy Karevik has been the voice of Kamelot since 2012’s Silverthorn album.

Opening the show are Visions of Atlantis, a symphonic power metal band from Austria, and Frozen Crown, a power metal outfit from Italy. Fans can likely look forward to some special onstage collaborations: Visions of Atlantis vocalist Clémentine Delauney provided guest vocals on Kamelot’s new track “Sanctuary,” making a live appearance highly probable. Additionally, Frozen Crown’s Giada Etro, who has been handling live female vocals for Kamelot on recent tour dates, will likely join them on stage for several songs throughout the night.

This all-ages show is one for the whole family. There will probably be more kids under the age of 13 than you would expect (and they will all be wearing adequate ear protection, right parents?) Doors open at 6:00 and the music should start at 7:00 p.m. The Truman is located at 601 East Truman Road, Kansas City, MO.

Support Northeast Kansas Weekend Concerts

I don’t sell advertising on this website. I make little person trades with local businesses that I like and respect. This calendar and many of the articles on here are a labor of love. I do it for free hoping that it will rekindle the sparks of a music scene.

But it gets very frustrating when I see the bands, artists, and venues not even bothering to promote their own shows. But I DO enjoy the part where they cry about no one showing up after their gig, with the hopes that maybe this time they will learn the lesson.

In the mean time, these websites do incur a certain expense, that I pay for out of my own pocket. So would it really hurt you to throw me a few bones? Below are my donation routes.

🎸 Keep The Roundup Running 🎸

Every week I dig through Facebook events, venue pages, and the NEKS.show feed by hand to build this calendar, because somebody in Northeast Kansas has to know what’s actually happening on a Friday night besides doomscrolling. No algorithm, no press release, just a guy tracking down show times so you don’t have to.

Your support keeps the roundup free for every band and every fan, funds the flyers and the write-ups, keeps the lights on at the Dystopeka compound, feeds Larry & Chewy, and props up the increasingly haunted van that gets me to half these shows in the first place.

⚠ WARNING: Excessive support may result in more weekend roundups, more flyers like the ones above, deeper dives into bands nobody’s covering, and a noticeable decrease in Bob’s willingness to shut up about local music.
