TOPEKA, Kan. — The Topeka Fire Department responded to an apartment fire late Thursday night in central Topeka.

Topeka apartment fire
The fire was reported at approximately 11:58 p.m. at the Aspen Apartments, located at 400 S.W. Macvicar Ave.
Fire crews arrived to find flames affecting the west side of the apartment building, which sustained visible damage.
According to Topeka Fire Battalion Chief Drew Culberth, one firefighter was injured while responding to the incident and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A dog was also rescued from the fire.
Additional details were not immediately available.
Firefighters had to contend with freezing temperatures that froze water on their ladders and areas making moving around difficult. Topeka police blocked off Macvicar from 6th North to kansa dr.
