Topeka shooting

Officers were dispatched at approximately 11:55 p.m. on December 19 to this Topeka shooting after several callers reported gunshots in the area. Early radio traffic indicated that a woman was seen lying on the ground and was unresponsive. Additional transmissions referenced “more gunshots” and two individuals down at the scene.

When officers arrived, they located two victims — one male and one female — both deceased.

Police said Saturday that they believe all individuals involved in the Topeka shooting have been accounted for and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. No further details about the Topeka shooting victims or the circumstances leading up to the shooting have been released.

Usually when police say this it is an indicator that one of the victims was the shooter and also took their own life. But it is unknown exactly what transpired at this point.

At shortly after 2:00 AM, the Police called for the county coroner to come to the scene, presumably to take the victims to the morgue.

The investigation remains active.

This might be the 19th and 20th homicides so far this year.
